Just because MSXdev23 recently opened doors, doesn’t mean we’d have to wait for games to enter. ToriHino, from the group RoboSoft Inc must have thought the same, as he dropped his latest creation on our doorstep just moments after we unlocked the contest. So, with “Pentacorn Quest”, the first entry is officially in!
Robosoft returns to MSXdev with his multiscreen platform-adventure game, where you’ll have to find your way though trapdoor invested screens to collect the five lost acorns. Magic gold acorns, that is. What’s the magic you ask? Well, that’s for you to find out. All we know is that they are a cause of dispute between the forces of Light and Darkness.
Originally released for the ZX-spectrum, and with permission of the original author Nightwolf, Robosoft delivers a solid MSX1 remake of the game.
Use either the keyboard cursor keys or a joystick in port 1 to control the protagonist. Fire button A, or space, to jump, and B, or ‘m’ on keyboard, to select the next entry in the inventory. Use “UP” to pick up items when standing over them, and use “DOWN” to either activate a trigger that you’re standing on, or use the currently selected item in the inventory.
Note – some triggers automatically activate once stepping onto them.
