MSXdev24 #09 Wizsoul

Title: Wizsoul
Genre: adventure
Author(s): Freenit
Medium: Disk 720KB
Hardware requirements: MSX2, 64KB

A particularly unique text-based adventure for the MSX2, available in both English and Spanish, has recently debuted at the dev show. From Spanish developer Freenit, this is Wizsoul.

Not all games arriving at the MSXdev office boast shiny, twinkling bitmap graphics; some opt for the classic MSX screen text as their foundation. Wizsoul is one such game: a text-based adventure. The author had the innovative idea to present both Spanish and English simultaneously for educational purposes—a clever concept indeed. However, the game’s instructions may be somewhat challenging to understand.

Wizsoul appears to be grounded in the concepts of the creator, spirit or soul, mind, brain, and body, aiming to explore proof of existence. At the game’s commencement, it presents an option to select a difficulty level by assessing your intelligence. There is no right or wrong choice.

Wizsoul is challenging to learn but easy to master, according to the author. The game unfolds on a 29×15 board, and you can use the numerical keys 0-9 on the keyboard to play. Begin the game to view detailed instructions, as there is no separate manual provided with this entry. Boot on MSX2 with FDD.
