Spanish game developer joesg bring us a platformer that is a humorous reference to an all time classic and it also cranks the difficulty up to 11. Crafted for the standard MSX1 machine, this is “The Drop of Abu-Cymbel.”
There is a classic Spanish video game called Abu-Simbel Profanation which is both revered and hated. You might have noticed the similarity to Abu-Cymbel’s name. The original Abu-Simbel is a platformer, which is well known for its insane difficulty, even by 80s standards. You are, of course, in a Pyramid, and the most dangerous of all foes is The Drop. Looks simple and harmless, it is not, it is the enemy that has killed most players on Abu-Simbel, and if memes would have existed in the 80s, it surely would have become one.
Now… today we have: The Drop of Abu-Cymbel. It is a platformer of insane difficulty set on a pyramid, and there is a drop, and that is where the similarities end. Most importantly, The Drop has been upgraded to a whole new level. The hero that can save the day is Missisipi Juan, but unfortunately he’s not available at the moment, so you have to play with Caconi Di’Merda, which is literally a piece of shit with a stick on it, but at least it can talk.
Are you brave enough to accompany Caconi in his dangerous adventure? Get across the pyramid and defeat the legendary Drop, the killer of adventurers, the embodiment of despair, the ultimate final boss. Of course you are, go try this game right now!
