Pump up the volume, please

The MSXdev24 winners lootbox is filling up nicely with all kinds of MSX related goodies. One of these items is the brand new sound extension from Supersoniqs called Makoto which brings NEC sounds to your MSX.

By now it is clear that the hardware company Supersoniqs doesn’t shy away from innovatory electronics. There variety of sound extensions, for example, is living proof of that. In that range, their newest product call Makoto is a small sized cartridge housing the NEC’s PC-8801/PC-9801 sound engine. The cart is based on a design of Iyatemu and redesigned by Digital River Hardware. Supersoniqs takes care of distribution, and dropping a copy of Makoto in the MSXdev Winners Loot Box.

What’s so special about this piece of hardware, is the fact that is has a lot in common with known MSX sound carts like PSG, MSX-Music and ADPCM. In fact, it is a good mix of those on just one cartridge. Like six channels of FM, SSG which is from the PSG family, 7 sample channels, and fixed six channel sample rhythmic sounds. A plethora of audio excitement, indeed!

The device is so new that it is not even in production yet. Still, we already have one for the winners Loot Box! Wow, great gesture Supersoniqs!
